Shien grew up with a wealthy family learning all the schools and ways of magic. One day, his family was attacked and murdered by a group of mercenaries and forced Shien to join their group with the only way out being either pay for his freedom or to murder the group.

After helping this group for some time and growing strong in ways of magic and making friends within the group, Shien finally managed to gain enough trust and good will with the leader of the group to gain his freedom and went to Magnimar to find an adventuring group.

Upon arriving, Shien had heard about a group investigating about some murders at the lower part of Magnimar. Once Shien learned that these were The Heros of Sandpoint it reminded him to try and make up some of the evil that had happen in his life. Shien arrived at Sandpoint the day after a massive ghoul attack was upon the city and met one of the heroes at the local inn, Nagatono.

Shien decided to learn more about this group in detail. once he had learned that Nagatono does tattoos and he himself was itching for new ink, decided that would be the perfect recon to learn more about this group. Soon after, The Heros of Sandpoint decided to go to Foxglove manor to investigate some connection to murders going on in sandpoint, Shien had a bad feeling that something gruesome was bound to happen, and chased after the adventuring party as fast as he could to try and offer his assistance before anything happens to the group.
