Skaylbane was at one time better known as Goldentag Skaylbane, a ranger who had perished before the Spellplague over a hundred years ago.

Several years ago, Kelemvor, the god of the dead, brought Goldentag back as a revenant. Goldentag then helped fight against the undead forces threatening the Sunset Vale. When the battle against the undead was won, Goldentag became a Favored of Mielikki, goddess of the forest. As a Favored, Goldentag was given new life in order to serve the goddess.

However, Goldentag began finding life over a century after he had died difficult. In that time, he had lost his wife Rina and his son Zac. Depressed, he turned to drinking. In order to survive and support his drinking habits, Goldentag would later sell his farm and all of his magic items.

For a few years, Goldentag survived by joining any adventuring band he could, or offering his skills for pay to anyone in need of a ranger. However, he had not been able to cleanse himself of his drinking habit.

About four years ago, heroes from the Sunset Vale found Skaylebane drinking himself into a stupor in Daggerford. They convinced him join them on a quest to save the Realms from Tiamat, queen of evil dragons. However he, Lo-kag, and Winslow were captured, then ultimately sacrificed to Tiamat. A year later, Caldreas and Patch, and others from Bear’s Head descended into the Nine Hells to retrieve an object containing his soul and those of Winslow’s and Lo-kag’s.

Returned from the dead, Skaylebane enjoyed a brief moment of respite in Bear’s Head when a strange magical storm appeared over the Sunset Vale and the town. Magical bolts struck downward and either injured, killed people, or teleported them elsewhere. Skaylebane, who was helping citizens was himself struck along with a few of his friends.

When he awoke, Skaylebane found himself, in a whole new world along with his friends. Together, they discovered they had been transported to the world of Golarion, in the nation of Taldor. Unable to find a way back home, Skaylebane and the others from Toril made a living as adventurers in Taldor. Skaylebane went back to being a bounty hunter, hunting down evil people and bringing them to justice.

In the two years since their arrival, they have made a name for themselves as the Champions of the Realms.
