Oathday, 20 Lamashan, 4716 AR (Absalom Reckoning), Fall
Ghouls invade the town of Sandpoint, killing many. The Heroes of Sandpoint do all they can to save the citizens of their beloved town. Iris is horrified to find her parents transformed into ghasts.
Leaving the safety of the Rusty Dragon Inn, the Heroes of Sandpoint went to help anyone who needed it.
As soon as they stepped out of the inn, they spotted four women running from a pack of ghouls.
Syn and Iris recognized the women from the Pixie’s Kitten, the town brothel. Syn immediately ran to help the women as the other heroes prepared themselves for battle.
In short the ghouls were slain. The four ‘kittens’ were able to escape and even promised Syn to properly thank him at some later time.
Unfortunately, Nagatono was hurt during the fight.
Hearing pleas for help, the heroes made their way down the street towards the cathedral, despite Nagatono’s injuries.
Down Festival Street, a young couple were frantically calling for help as the heroes arrived. Everyone recognized the two as Ghary and Cecely Greisser who had two children, a boy named Jaycob and a daughter named Elsa.
Upon spotting the heroes the couple begged them to help their children who were trapped in the basement of their house along with several ghouls.
When the heroes entered the basement, they saw six ghouls trying to break into a large barrel. Inside the barrel, they could hear the two children screaming.
Clan who was the first to enter the basement, yelled to get the ghouls’ attention. All but one ghoul rushed to attack Clan who was quickly joined by the others.
Despite slaying all of the ghouls, the heroes had sustained injuries during the fight. Not having any healing potions, the group continued on after making sure the Greisser family was safe. Clan even asked Jaycob, who about twelve years old, if he would be interested in becoming a smith’s apprentice. Jaycob, who idolized Clan, was extremely grateful and agreed.
As the heroes made their way farther into town, they began seeing the carnage left behind by the ghouls. Dead bodies littered the streets, while more screams and pleas for help could be heard across town.
Another cry for help stole the heroes attention from the remains of a guard from Magnimar lying on a deserted street.
The heroes all prayed they wouldn’t meet a similar gruesome fate.
At the corner of Raven Street, they saw Nisk Tander, the owner of the Bottled Solutions, trying desperately to get the heroes’ attention.
“There’s four of them, I think,” Nisk stammered in fear. “They’re tearing my shop apart. Please help!”
The group promised to help the shop owner in return for free healing potions. Nisk reluctantly agreed.
When the group entered the Bottled Solutions they were surprised by two ghouls who were later joined by two more.
To Iris’s horror, she immediately recognized the two new ghouls who had joined the fight. She had heard from Sheriff Hemlock that there were reports of the outlying farms being attacked by ghouls. But she never thought her own parents were in danger.
“Daughter dear,” one of the foul undead hissed. “Mother and Father are here.”
The foul stench from the new ghouls was overpowering, making those who couldn’t resist the effects of the stench sick.
The other, Iris recognized as once having been her father said, “Let’s be a family, Iris, and serve His Lordship.”
“Who is he?” Iris screamed. Tears filled her eyes. “Tell me!”
“They are no longer your parents,” Syn said.
Clan stepped up to attack the four undead. But the battle against the more powerful ghouls who were once Iris’s parents proved to be too much.
At one point, Iris’s mother attacked her. It’s foul attack even caused Iris to be paralyzed.
Completely out of spells and wounded from the last two encounters, the group decided to escape. Clan had to carry Iris out into the street.
Fortunately, the ghouls in shop did not pursue them.
The group decided to seek healing from Father Zantus and Medik at Sandpoint Cathedral. But on the way, they heard guards calling to them from the Sandpoint Town Hall.
They ran as fast as they could and entered the hall. The guards closed the doors behind them and barricaded the doors.
Inside the town hall was full of people. About five town guards stood by windows and doors, prepared for any possible attack.
The guards warned about how dangerous it was at the cathedral. It seemed a large pack of ghouls was attacking the cathedral were many of the town folks had barricaded themselves inside.
But as the guards were decided what to do next, some of the people began blaming Clan for the attack on Sandpoint.
They said they had heard about how Clan’s name was found on the notes left at the murdered victims.
The heroes couldn’t believe what they were hearing and tried to defend Clan citing his role in investigating the murders and defending Sandpoint earlier.
Although most of the town’s folks were swayed, many were unmoved and continued to blame Clan for what was happening.
Tired and hurt, the Heroes of Sandpoint remained inside the safety of the Town Hall while screams of the dying and pleas for help outside haunted them throughout the night.
For Iris, the sight of her parents becoming the things she was fighting against haunted her even more.
